ReadingI am what you might call a voracious reader. I really like to read and I read pretty quickly. Certainly heavier and lengthy books still take me a while but I tend to get through your average books pretty quickly. Katie also really likes to read — although reading for her is not so much about the words as the pictures and what she remembers from when it was read to her. Books like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? have been read so frequently that she knows the words by heart.

She spends a lot of time each day reading or being read to and some of her favorite books recently have been books that were mine when I was her age. We have a collection of Richard Scarry books (especially his Best Word Book Ever – an awesome book), Sweet Pickles books, and Value Tale books.

Today, while I was getting dressed, Katie was sitting on my bed reading Oh, What a Busy Day!Gyo Fujikawa - Oh What A Busy Day! by Gyo Fujikawa — a favorite from my childhood (and my sister’s too). I hear her reading Good Morning! Good Morning! Good Morning! Good Morning! Good Morning! then I hear I’m up! I’m up! It’s going to be a busy day! on my way over to see what she’s looking at I hear I’m a duck! I’m a tree! I’m a princess. and I smile remembering how much I loved that page too.
