Today was a good day — both urchins took naps (even at the same time), I unloaded the dishwasher, the urchins got mail from Australia, and Tristan pooped! Time for a celebration. No, seriously, not only did I get the dishwasher unloaded, reloaded, and running but I got some laundry done too. The pooping hadn’t happened in almost five days — thank you iron-fortified cereal — so we were very pleased when that happened too. But the thing that made it a very good day was the arrival of the package from Australia.
Yesterday it was 95 degrees, the humidity was at 80%, and the power went out for over two hours. Welcome to Summer! Today they are forecasting a high of 85 and afternoon thuderstorms. We expect this pattern to continue for the next three to four months. From now on, expect to only see pictures of us at least half-naked, like this one… Read more
Phew, we needed that. We just returned, late last night/early this morning from a weekend trip to the beach. Our good friend invited us on Wednesday and in uncharacteristic spontaneity I said Sure we can go. It was so cute, when Stefan found out about the invitation (I already knew about it) he called me and said, It would be fun but I guess we really can’t go. And I said, I was thinking we could go. This was followed by stunned silence. Anyway, thank you Ed and Karen for the wonderful weekend. For the rest of you, here are some photo highlights… Read more
It turns out the pork chop is aptly named, well the pork part at least. Yesterday after weighing him in at almost 19 pounds the nurse at his check-up remarked He’s a big boy. Well, yeah. What I want to know is why I’m so fat if I’m lugging around a 20 pound weight (occasionally 55 with Katie too). This might explain it — at 8:43 this morning I was unloading the dishwasher one handed. I needed my other hand free to eat my breakfast — an oatmeal raisin cookie. Oatmeal and raisins are good for you, right?
So it’s been a busy week for our baby urchin. Last Thursday he started sitting by himself — occasionally for as much as a minute. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure if what he was doing would actually be defined as sitting — it might be described as more like a yoga position — but after a family vote yesterday it was decided that yes, he is sitting. Hooray Tristan!!
I just called home and asked Jen what was going on there…
I am doing dishes, Sandra [the cleaning lady] and Katie are reading a book.
I knew things were a little crazier at home since I started my new job and began working
long normal hours, but I didn’t realize it was so bad that Jen was using the maid as a babysitter and cleaning the house herself. I can’t blame her, even in the limited time I am around Katie now, I have a hard time handling the constant chatter. On a rainy day like today I would probably go nuts. I am just worried what is going to happen when school lets out for the summer and Jen loses her two half-days of sanity. I have encouraged her to find some way to get Katie out of the house for a few hours a week, but as yet she has booked nothing. I might just have to take matters into my own hands for fear of coming home to finding Jen curled up in the corner in the fetal position while Katie watches a non-stop Dora marathon and gorges herself on Laffy Taffy and tortilla chips.
Last night Papa Urchin — in a rare moment of hard-nosedness — took away a whole bunch of Katie’s toys. I had told her five minutes earlier to not dump them out of their storage container because it was time to head upstairs for bed. As is the case with a three year old, she waited for me to get to the second floor and then up-ended the container. So she was given a certain amount of time on the timer and what she didn’t pick up was taken away — this ended up being most of the dumped toys. After she was in bed Stefan put them in a plastic grocery bag on the counter, so she can see them and be taunted — it took him a really long time to get home from work yesterday so he was in a bad mood. But here’s the thing, he left this morning for work and I got stuck with the three year old and the bag of toys. All morning our conversations went like this…
Sorry for the lack of posts, nothing exciting seems to be going on around here as of late. Like right now, Tristan and I are sitting at the kitchen table watching Katie eat a Ring Pop. We were going to go to the post office and send a “Congratulations on Your Baby” package to some friends who had a little girl in January — yes that means she is almost four months old — but we have no packing tape. So here we sit as Katie ingests enough sugar to energize her for three days. How did this become my life?
